Privacy Policy
Last updated: 01/07/2026
Beremi Scholar Transport is committed to protecting your personal information, and the personal information of your children, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how we look after it, and the rights you have. It covers both this website and the scholar transport service we provide.
Who we are
This website and service are operated by Beremi Scholar Transport, a scholar transport provider based in Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa. Website: https://beremi.co.za. For any privacy question, contact us at beremi.trans86@gmail.com or on 064 887 3715.
Information Officer
Beremi Scholar Transport has appointed an Information Officer. The Information Officer is responsible for our compliance with POPIA and for handling your privacy requests, and can be reached at beremi.trans86@gmail.com.
Personal information we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
- Website enquiries: your name, contact number, email address and the content of your message when you use our contact form or message us.
- Registration and service: the parent or guardian’s name, contact details and home address; your child’s name, age or grade, and school; the pickup and drop-off addresses; and the information we need to arrange and bill for transport.
- Payments: the billing details needed to process monthly payments. We do not store full card details ourselves.
- Safety and operations: attendance records for each trip, and footage from the live in-vehicle cameras fitted in our vehicles.
Children’s information
Because we transport learners, we necessarily process personal information about children. Under POPIA, a child’s personal information may only be processed with the consent of a parent or guardian (a “competent person”). By registering your child with us, you consent to us processing your child’s information for the purpose of providing safe, supervised transport. We treat children’s information with extra care and use it only for that purpose.
In-vehicle cameras
Our vehicles are fitted with live-feed cameras. We use camera monitoring to keep learners safe, to encourage good conduct, to support responsible driving, and to review footage if an incident needs to be investigated. Access to footage is limited to authorised people. We keep footage only as long as it is needed for these purposes and then delete it, unless we are required to keep it longer, for example for an ongoing investigation or because the law requires it.
Why we process your information
We use personal information to:
- respond to your enquiries;
- check route availability and register your child;
- plan routes and provide the daily transport service;
- communicate with you about your child’s trips, including safety matters;
- invoice and take payment; and
- keep learners safe and meet our legal and road-traffic obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where it is needed to run the service, for example: with the driver and chaperone assigned to your child’s route, so they can care for your child; with your child’s school where this is needed for pickup or drop-off; and with service providers who help us operate, such as payment and IT providers, under appropriate confidentiality terms. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
How we protect and keep your information
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. We keep information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or for as long as the law requires, and then we delete or de-identify it.
Cookies and analytics
We use necessary cookies to operate the site. With your consent we also use analytics and/or marketing cookies. These are only set after you opt in via our consent banner, and you can change your choice at any time. We do not set non-essential cookies if you decline.
Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you or your child, and request a copy;
- ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong, out of date or no longer needed;
- object to certain processing; and
- withdraw consent where our processing relies on it, which will not affect processing already carried out.
To exercise any of these rights, email beremi.trans86@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity first.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): website inforegulator.org.za, JD House, 27 Stiemens Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg. Complaints can be sent to POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za.
